How to Play Games Without Downloading Anything

Downloading games used to be the only way to play anything substantial. That's no longer true — and there are good reasons to prefer instant-play browser games.

Why no-download is better

  • Speed. You click a game and it starts. No installer, no progress bar, no restart.
  • Storage. Browser games don't eat your hard drive. You can try dozens without filling your device.
  • Safety. Installed software can carry bundled adware or worse. A game that runs in a browser sandbox can't touch your filesystem the way an installer can.
  • Cross-device. The same game runs on your laptop, phone and tablet with no separate install on each.

What to check before you play

Browser games are safe by design, but a little hygiene helps. Stick to sites that are clear about their ad and privacy practices (our privacy policy covers ours). Use a modern, updated browser, since HTML5 and WebGL security improves with every release. And if a game prompts you to install a plugin or download a "helper", close it — a legitimate browser game needs neither.

Getting started

On OwlGeometry, every game launches in an embedded player on its own page. Browse the homepage, pick a category or search a title, click, and play. That's the whole process — which is rather the point.
